What is Ethereum Name Service (ENS)?

Ethereum Name Service (ENS), developed in May 2017 by Nick Johnson and Alex Van de Sande who were developers at the Ethereum Foundation, is an Ethereum-based project. The aim of the project is to simplify the long and complex ethereum addresses into text form, making them easier to use. This facilitates sharing, using, and remembering addresses. For example, remembering an address starting with 0xDc45…… is quite difficult. Such numbers and letters are read by machines and go to the owner of the numbers when we make a cryptocurrency transfer. Ethereum Name Service aims to convert these numbers into alternatives readable by humans. It is an important step towards the adoption of blockchain.
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is not limited to just wallet addresses. It can also be used to represent people and data commonly transacted over cryptocurrencies. ENS can be thought of as the phone directory of the internet, akin to the Domain Name System (DNS). DNS takes hard-to-remember IP addresses and adds them to an easy-to-use URL like https://cryptomoneysupport.com/. Thus, users can enter the website name they want to visit instead of numbers. In other words, ENS could be considered the DNS of the Ethereum blockchain. If we look at the difference between ENS and DNS, we can say ENS is blockchain-based.
Who is in the ENS Team?
Talking about the Ethereum Name Service team, Nick Johnson serves as Creator & Lead Developer. Jeff Lau serves both as a frontend and Solidity Developer. Brantly Millegan is at the head of the operations team. Another developer on the team, Muhammed Tanrıkulu, works as a Full Stack Developer.
How Does the ENS Service Work?
An ENS domain name is also unique and uses ERC-721 NFTs to represent this uniqueness. You can transfer or sell the NFT to someone else as a domain name trade. Wallet addresses and other data can be managed by their owner. In the ENS service, an extension with .eth is obtained.
To purchase an Ethereum domain name, you can check its availability and rent it annually. Famous names with “.eth” extensions were initially sold via auction. Besides the domain name, there are also subdomains available. For this, you first need to obtain a domain name. Once you have it, you can create other domain names for free. For example, if you own bitlo.eth, you can create akademi.bitlo.eth for free as well.
What Can You Do with ENS?
Looking at what makes ENS valuable, you will understand the need for ENS when transferring cryptocurrency from your account to another without the complexity of multiple addresses or the worry of sending to the wrong address. Just as you would save a friend's phone number with their name, ENS allows users to convert long numbers into easily remembered words. This creates a simple and very useful experience with less likelihood of errors.
An ENS domain name owner can also create subdomains that can later be assigned other data. It does not always have to be a wallet address. You can use it to direct to a smart contract, transaction, or data.
How Do You Get Your ENS Domain Name?
Nowadays, getting an ENS domain is quite simple. All you have to do is visit https://app.ens.domains/ and check if the domain name you want is available. If the domain name you want is not taken, you can connect your wallet to the site and purchase the domain name in exchange for ethereum. It will show you both the domain name fee and the gas fee to be paid. It can be rented for a minimum of one year, but you can extend the period by paying a bit more.
ENS Token Economy?
The total and maximum supply of Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is 100 million, with a circulating supply of 20 million units.
ENS Market Value?
The market value of Ethereum Name Service is around 17 billion TL.
How to Buy Ens?
In Turkey, contrary to what might be thought, buying Ethereum Name Service tokens (ENS) with Turkish Lira is very easy and quick. You can buy ENS without any technical knowledge.
