What is Chromia (CHR)?

Chromia (CHR), a blockchain platform aimed at solving the scalability issue for dApps, is composed of a network of relational blockchains. dApps can be written in a manner familiar to developers around the world, whether they are for large corporate applications, games, or smaller projects.
Similar to sharding in Ethereum, each blockchain within Chromia is associated with a set of validator nodes, which is a subset of all nodes in Chromia. This subset of nodes runs a Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) consensus algorithm.
The consensus in the Chromia network is further strengthened by anchoring the transaction history of Chromia to Proof-of-Work (PoW) blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Once a block is anchored, it is considered final. CHR is Chromia's native utility token. Users can use CHR tokens within dApps, and dApps pay transaction fees using CHR tokens to prevent producers from blocking them. Chromia allows dApps to issue CHR-backed tokens, while investors in dApp projects can be compensated in CHR through a profit-sharing agreement. For developers, Chromia (CHR) offers the opportunity to generate additional revenue claims for the tokens they own through popular dApps, generating revenue from their dApps. Current applications of dApps on Chromia include finance, gaming, real estate, and healthcare services. In the future, Chromia (CHR) will also focus on dApps involving supply chain, corporate services, and IoT (Internet of Things).
Chromia is an open-source public blockchain created by the Swedish company Chromaway AB. The Chroma token (CHR) was launched in May 2019. The technology behind the Chromia blockchain is adapted from a previously utilized technology called “Postchain,” a solution provided by Chromaway AB for corporate clients.
The Chromia (CHR) Team
The core team of Chromia (CHR) consists of industry veterans Or Perelman, Henrik Hjelte, and Alex Mizrahi. Perelman, Hjelte, and Mizrahi have deep and robust roots in the crypto field, going back to the early days of Bitcoin and Ethereum. For instance, Mizrahi has published academic papers in the early days of the Proof of Stake consensus and was one of the key figures behind Colored Coins, one of the first projects to develop the concept of "tokens" that would later be highlighted by Ethereum.
In conclusion, Chromia (CHR) is actively being developed as a Layer-1 and Layer-2 Blockchain solution aimed at providing advanced features and data processing and storage capabilities to decentralized applications.
How Chromia Works
Chromia (CHR) can develop an independent Layer-1 Blockchain for Binance Smart Chain and Ethereum and an EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) compatible Layer-2. Chromia emerges to enhance existing dApps and allow the creation of next-generation dApps by providing scalability, advanced data processing, and customizable fee structures.
The blockchain uses a unique architecture called relational Blockchain, alongside a special programming language called Rell. The Rell programming language is designed to code and operate similarly to SQL, allowing developers to store and process data with the efficiency of a relational database while benefiting from the security and immutability of blockchain.
Every dApp running on Chromia (CHR) operates on its own sidechain based on the main blockchain. In other words, it allows each application to scale more efficiently and gives each application developer the freedom to choose from various fee structures. For example, one application may require users to pay transaction fees in CHR (similar to how Ethereum or Bitcoin operates), while another application may stake enough CHR to allocate computing power, allowing its users to make unlimited transactions without any fees.
Applications Created on Chromia
Chromia (CHR) uses its chains as a decentralized storage layer and has many different applications based on the Blockchain utilizing Layer-2 developments. These applications range from the DeFi options trading platform Hedget, to the open-world farming game My Neighbor Alice, to the government land registry initiative LAC PropertyChain.
One of the latest features in Chromia's development process is known as Chromia Originals, a new NFT standard that will work both as a native standard on the Chromia chain and as a development layer for existing ERC-721 and BEP-721 tokens. The Layer-2 developments are being developed in collaboration with My Neighbor Alice.
