What is Axie Infinity (AXS)?
Axie Infinity, inspired by Pokémon, is a game where individuals can earn tokens through contributions to the ecosystem and their gaming skills.
Players can battle, collect, upgrade, and establish a land-based kingdom for their pets. All game data and Axie genetic data are easily accessible to third parties, allowing community developers to create their own tools and experiences within the Axie Infinity universe. Axie Infinity is partly a blockchain-based trading and battle game owned and operated by its players.
Drawing inspiration from popular games like Pokémon and Tamagotchi, Axie Infinity allows players to collect, breed, upgrade, battle, and trade token-based creatures known as Axies. Axies can take various forms and include over 500 different body parts, including water, monster, bird, bug, plant, and reptile parts.
Despite being in early access, Axie is currently ranked as the number one Ethereum game by daily, weekly, and monthly active users. To date, Axie has generated over 6,400 ETH (over 2 million USD) in revenue. Beyond being a fun game, Axie also embodies the characteristics of a social network and business platform due to its strong community and rapid success, offering opportunities for earning. The primary difference between Axie and a normal game is the use of Blockchain economic design to reward players for their contributions to the ecosystem.
This new game model is called "play to earn." During the Covid pandemic, Axie attracted thousands of players from developing countries looking for a new source of income. Many of these players, including fathers, aunts, and even grandparents, had never used Blockchain technology before.
The winning side can enhance an Axie's stats by earning more experience points or upgrading body parts. Axies can be bred to produce new and unique offspring, which can be used or sold in the Axie market.
The Axie Infinity ecosystem also has its unique governance tokens known as Axie Infinity Shards (AXS). These are used to participate in key governance votes and give holders a say in how funds in the Axie Community treasury are spent.

The Axie Infinity ecosystem also has its unique governance tokens known as Axie Infinity Shards (AXS). These are used to participate in key governance votes and give holders a say in how funds in the Axie Community treasury are spent.
What Makes Axie Infinity Unique?
As mentioned, Axies possess six out of hundreds of different potential body parts, each with its own battle move. This creates essentially infinite variety among Axies, with most having relatively weak stats, while those with the strongest combination of body parts possess impressive stats. Unlike other blockchain-based battle and breeding games, each Axie can only be bred a total of seven times to help control the Axie population.
Axie Infinity has its own breeding center to help players find the perfect match to breed their Axies for the best chance of producing a rare or powerful offspring. Breeding Axies costs 0.005 ETH along with Small Love Potion (SLP) tokens. AXS token holders will soon be able to stake their tokens to receive regular rewards. Unlike other stakable assets, AXS holders must vote and play to receive their rewards.

How Do Players Earn in the Axie Infinity System?
Competing in PVP (Player vs. Player) battles to win leaderboard rewards. Selling breeding Axies in the market. Gathering and speculating on rare Axies like Mystics and Origins. Farming love potions needed for breeding Axies and selling them on exchanges.
From 2021, players can earn AXS, a governance token representing a real slice of the game world due to governance rights and built-in fee sharing. Players earn this token by playing, leading to a situation where players can own a part of the game world by completing unique Ready Player One-style quests. However, these quests do not reward every player equally based on effort and skill.

Axie's Mission
Axie is built as a fun and educational way to introduce the world to blockchain technology. Most of the founding team members met while playing Crypto Kitties and used Blockchain for the first time outside of speculation. They soon started working on Axie to introduce the power of Blockchain technology to billions of gamers.
Axie's Vision
Axie's vision is based on the belief in a future where work and play become one. They empower their players and offer them economic opportunities. Among these, the most significant is the dream that battling and collecting cute creatures can change the world.
The Game
Axie Infinity is structured as an open-ended digital pet universe. The Axie core team, in harmony with the community, will create functionality for game assets associated with the Axie brand. The Axie universe advocates fun above all, thus ensuring an immersive gaming experience to attract enough participants to add value to the network.
Battle System
In October 2018, the Axie core team launched the first battle system built on Axie game assets. The battle system is structured as an "idle battle" system, inspired by games like "Final Fantasy Tactics" and "Idle Heroes." In March 2019, the team started development on a real-time card battle system and application, releasing an Alpha in December 2019. As of October 2020, the application has accumulated over 15,000 downloads with more than 7,000 weekly active users. Like Pokémon has gone through numerous iterations and battle system types, Axie is expected to have many battle variations in the coming years.
Tournaments and Esports
Due to its skill-based, competitive nature, the Axie battle system is a good fit for competitive gaming and Esports. This direction will grow the project, also incentivizing players who earn money to spend most of their time on it. Axie players have already won thousands of dollars worth of cryptocurrency through numerous tournaments organized by the core team or third-party sponsors.
Breeding System
Like real-world pets, Axies on the platform can be bred to create new offspring. To prevent overpopulation of Axies, there is a maximum number of times an Axie can be bred before it becomes sterile. Breeding an Axie costs two AXS and some Smooth Love Potions, depending on how many times the Axies have been bred.
Genetics
Each Axie has six body parts and a body shape, with three genes for each part: a dominant (D), recessive (R1), and minor recessive gene (R2). The dominant gene determines the body part physically present on the Axie. During breeding, each gene has a chance to be passed on to the offspring:
This calculation is used to navigate probabilities when breeding two Axies.
1. Dominant (D): This gene has a 37.5% chance of being passed to the offspring.
2. Recessive (R1): This gene has a 9.375% chance of being passed to the offspring.
3. Minor Recessive (R2): This gene has a 3.125% chance of being passed to the offspring.
2. Recessive (R1): This gene has a 9.375% chance of being passed to the offspring.
3. Minor Recessive (R2): This gene has a 3.125% chance of being passed to the offspring.
This calculation is used to navigate probabilities when breeding two Axies.
How Long Does It Take for an Axie to Mature?
It takes 5 days for Axies to reach maturity. After 5 days, the egg can be turned into an adult Axie, and the Axie's genes can be seen at this stage.
Axie Population Control
Axie population growth is a critical factor in the Axie ecosystem. At any given time, there is an ideal inflation rate that allows us to reach our maximum potential. If the inflation rate is too slow, Axie prices become too high, especially competitive Axies, but too fast, and we get unhealthy inflation. Long-term Axie population management is based on:
Adding additional utility to Axies through new experiences like land, mini-games: This also benefits Axies beyond their effectiveness in short-lived metas.
Adding vertical rather than purely horizontal progression: Currently, the main path for progression is to expand the size of collections. This dynamic is not optimal in the long term. There will be upgrades requiring crafting materials for both Axies and Land in the long run. These crafting materials can be obtained by "releasing" Axies themselves. This creates a long-term supply pool for the Axie population. Axie progression will continue to evolve, creating a much stronger bond between trainers and the Axies they choose to upgrade.
Competitive Soulbound Axies will allow individuals to compete and have fun without spending too much money. This game should not be one where sections can be passed by paying money. Therefore, the earning potential for Soulbound Axies should be zero or close to zero, meaning there should still be demand for strong “real” battle Axies. Additionally, it must be remembered that demand for SLP (Small Love Potion) (and AXS) is ultimately driven by demand for Axies, so creating more reasons to own Axies and facilitating growth is important for a healthy economy.

Land
Lunacia, the homeland of Axie, is divided into tokenized plots of land that serve as homes and operation bases for Axies. Lands can be upgraded over time using various resources and crafting materials found while playing the game. Additionally, landowners can find AXS tokens on their land or use Axies occupying a land plot to explore resource nodes on the map. Axies can find AXS and potentially other resources while interacting with resource nodes.
Resource Gathering and Crafting
Resources will emerge at nodes in Lunacia and be used to upgrade both the land and axles. Landowners will have the first rights to all resources that emerge on their land.
Real-Time PvE (Player vs. Environment) Battles
Chimeras, known monsters terrorizing Lunacia, can be fought in real-time battles either solo or in groups by players. Chimeras will drop various resources, items, and blueprints used for upgrading land and individual Axies. More details about land will be revealed over time.
The World of Lunacia
Lunacia consists of 90,601 parcels of land. These Land parcels are represented as Non-Fungible Tokens and can be freely traded by players. Land gameplay is still actively being developed and will be released in phases. The first phase, mentioned above game part, and the second phase will focus on transforming Lunacia into a virtual world by focusing on user-generated content. Players will be able to create games using the Lunacia SDK and host these games on their owned land.
Lunacia SDK
Initially, the Lunacia SDK will be a map editor where players can use Axie Infinity game assets to create games and other experiences. Once a game is created, it is registered as a Fungible Token and can be traded. These NFTs can be placed on the land, and players can click on them to enter the game. The goal is to gradually decentralize the game creation aspect of the Axie universe throughout this process.
Axie Infinity Community
Axie Infinity is a new type of game where users and the core development team are encouraged to work together to grow the network. Axie is recognized as the largest and most powerful community in NFT games. Despite being relatively small in size compared to normal games, the amount of user-generated content and belief in the Axie community is very high.
Third-Party Development
The Axie universe is believed to be a fertile environment for attracting developers to blockchain technology and could serve as a potential launchpad for independent developers. The Axie community has so far developed various tools and experiences such as:
1. Tools to assess Axies.
2. Tools for advanced market research.
3. Small mini-games.
2. Tools for advanced market research.
3. Small mini-games.
Decentralized Organization
Through AXS, Axie Infinity will gradually transform into a decentralized organization owned by the community. This process, facilitated by the distribution of AXS among players and bettors, will result in the ownership of Sky Mavis becoming less concentrated over time. The Sky Mavis team will be able to vote with Play to Earn and Staking reward allocations locked. This will prevent adversaries from disrupting the ecosystem during its early and critical stages of development. It is predicted that Sky Mavis will not have majority voting power until October 2023.
The Path to Becoming a Decentralized Organization:
Version 0:
The token creation event in October, 2020 (where voting was not possible).
Version 1:
Known as the Staking dashboard, released in the first half of 2021.
AXS holders can stake their tokens via the staking dashboard and participate in governance votes proposed by the Sky Mavis team. These votes will revolve around which teams should receive funding from the ecosystem fund and how the community treasury should be distributed.
Version 2:
More on-chain voting on smaller issues in early 2022, potentially changing the counting of votes from one token one vote to Quadratic voting.
Version 3:
The decentralized organization in September 2023; AXS holders will determine which governance framework should be used and how much voting power will be allocated. Certain decisions such as smart token supply will not be open for discussion.

Future Revenue Streams
Axie Infinity will be operated as a Game-as-a-Service model, introducing new features over time. Axie, Axies, Land, cosmetics, and in-game art supplies could potentially generate revenue. Additionally, fees will be charged when players want to level up their game characters, participate in tournaments, and create new assets. The Community Treasury will start collecting fees once the staking dashboard is activated. All fees and revenue generated by Axie Infinity will be placed into the Community Treasury, managed by AXS holders. Currently, the main fees in the Axie universe are:
A breeding fee paid in AXS for breeding Axies. A 4.25% Axie Marketplace fee on successful sales of Axies, land, and land items.

Security and Consensus
To help secure Ronin, a constellation of stars from the worlds of traditional gaming, crypto, and non-fungible tokens collaboratively serve as validators of the network.
How Secure is the Axie Infinity Network?
The Axie Infinity (AXS) token is an ERC-20 token launched on the Ethereum blockchain. In other words, it is secured by Ethereum's Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism. In early 2021, Axie Infinity plans to migrate NFT tokens, including Axies, Land, and other in-game item tokens from the Loom Network to a specially created sidechain known as Ronin. Ronin is an application-specific sidechain developed for Axie Infinity by Sky Mavis, the development firm behind the Axie Infinity game, and is officially designed to support instant transaction confirmations, low gas fees, and help scale Axie Infinity.
Ronin Ethereum Sidechain
Sky Mavis is currently developing Ronin, an Ethereum-linked sidechain specifically made for Axie Infinity. Historically, Ronin, a samurai without a master in feudal Japan, represents the idea that the product's fate is in its own hands.
The Future of Ronin
Sky Mavis CEO Trung has stated, "We are very excited about the possibilities that Ronin brings, and although Ronin is still in its infancy, it will continue to evolve over the years to serve the spirit and values of blockchain gaming. Technically, we are exploring various solutions to further strengthen and scale Ronin, with zKSyncs looking promising, but it may take time for them to be production-ready, especially for NFTs and our games."
Governance
The main version of Axie Infinity for iOS/Android, playable in the first half of 2022 as land gameplay, and the second half of 2022 as Lunacia SDK Alpha, is known. At the end of the game, players will be able to use a single application to interact with the entire Axie Infinity universe, including social network, marketplace, Axies' progression, breeding gameplay, tiered PvP tournaments, and PvE adventure mode.
Land Gameplay
Players expand their kingdoms by gathering resources, attacking Chimeras, and other players. The Lunacia SDK allows developers and content creators to use existing Axie Infinity assets to make games and host them on land.
Axie Infinity Team
